A friend has a 2014 Honda Foreman 500 ES that refuses to shift. So far, we've swapped out the battery, the shift motor, and the shift angle sensor and it worked for a short time, but then stopped again. We're out of ideas, someone mentioned a bypass kit, but it looks like those aren't compatible with the 2014 model. Any advice?

I suspect the issue has something to do with the wiring harness itself.
A frayed wire or a bad connection can cause intermittent problems like you described.
I'd carefully check the connections to the shift motor and angle sensor, and also follow the harness to make sure there are no worn spots where it might be rubbing against the frame.
Also consider if the ECU is getting a bad signal from somewhere, like it could be telling the shift motor to act up.
It's a long shot, but sometimes the simple stuff is what gets overlooked.

Okay, so check the connectors at the ECM and fuse box for any corrosion. When you turn the key and shift, test the voltage at the shift motor. If the voltage is not stable, it might be a damaged wire or a failing ECM.
