Engine swap question

Considering engine swaps for a 95-2003 400 Foreman manual shift model and was wondering which engines are compatible with this frame. Specifically I'm curious if a 450 or 500 engine could fit in the frame. Ive noticed there seems to be a wider selection of aftermarket parts for other engine models and Im looking for options that will allow me to upgrade while still maintaining compatibility with the original frame. Any advice ?

The 450 engine is by far the easiest swap for a 400 Foreman frame imo , it mostly fits with just tiny adjustments. A 500 can work too, but it takes a bit more custom work like adjusting mounts and wiring. If you want something close to plug-and-play with good parts support, the 450 should be your best option.

Totally agree, the 450's the cleanest swap for a 400 frame. Minimal tweaks, solid parts support. The 500's doable, but definitley more custom work

Did the sawp with a friend of mine, the 400went to the junkyard and the 450 went in the foreman. Surprisingly smooth sailing, because he got the whole package, but if I remember he mentioned that the harness needs to be replaced and a few other things.

The 450 is a popular choice for a reason. It slips in really easily. But if you're okay with spending more wrench time, you can also work with the 500 but just expect some wiring tweaks.

yeap! They share a very similar engine block and mounting points. It's often considered one of the more straightforward 'big bore' swaps for that chassis lol
